Commitment to Quality
Quality at the heart of everything we do
Quality has always been an integral component of our work at NGH. Now we are not only raising the bar still higher, we are extending the application of high quality standards to the work of everyone at NGH. We believe this will result in the best outcomes for patients and higher levels of satisfaction for the people who help deliver those outcomes.
Our new Quality Strategy focuses on three core areas:
Patient Safety – there will be no avoidable harm to patients from the healthcare they receive. This means ensuring that the environment is clean and safe at all times and that harmful events never happen.
Effectiveness of care – the most appropriate treatments, interventions, support and services will be provided at the right time to those patients who will benefit. Our patients will have healthcare outcomes which achieve those described in the NHS Outcomes Framework| and NICE Quality standards|.
Patient Experience – patients will experience compassionate, caring and communicative staff who work in partnership with patients, families and carers to achieve the best possible health outcomes.
NGH recognises the connection between the quality of care that our patients receive and the values, aspirations and skills of our staff. Health organisations whose staff are more involved deliver better care. There is also compelling evidence that staff wellbeing and staff experience at work reflect in patient experience and outcomes.
Therefore all who work at NGH will be supported in developing and making best use of their potential and expertise to provide the highest standards of care to patients. As a result:
-
All staff will be able to recognise their contribution to quality and its improvement
-
Staff concerns will be listened to
-
All staff will have the necessary training and development to improve service quality
-
All workplaces will be safe with effective management of risks and hazards
-
All staff will be appraised annually, and have agreed Personal Development Plans which harness their potential for quality improvement
-
When things have not gone well, we will focus on learning lessons and improving quality
-
When things go well, information and learning will be shared so others can learn
