Midwives Anne Richley, Sally O'Connell and Babita Williams
Northampton General Hospital’s award-winning team of home birth midwives will be out and about around Northampton next week, answering questions about pregnancy and birth.
Last month the NGH home birth team, led by Anne Richley, Sally O’Connell and Babita Williams, scooped one of the UK’s top midwifery prizes at the Royal College of Midwives annual awards. Since the team was introduced last year the number of home births has climbed to around seven per cent of all births in the area – more than three times the national average.
Senior midwife Anne Richley said: “It was a real honour to win the award, and we are delighted to be able to provide this essential service. It’s great news for the local community too, as we are providing real choice for women and their families.
“The idea of our ‘Meet the Midwives’ week is partly to celebrate the national recognition we have been given, but it is mainly about providing help, advice and answers to a wider audience. We hope that being available at different locations throughout the week will give many more people an opportunity to speak to us. We will be happy to answer any questions they may have, not just about home births, but about the whole subject of pregnancy and childbirth in general.”
Two midwives from the NGH team will be available in the following locations next week:
