Dying Matters at NGH

Description
"Before I die I would like to..." That's the sentence we'll be asking our staff, visitors and patients to finish tomorrow to mark Dying Matters Week 2015. We'll have a graffiti board in the Cyber Café on Hospital Street where you can tell us what you'd like to do before you die; there'll be free organza bags with Forget-me-not seeds to sow in memory of a loved one; and we'll be asking our staff to fill in a pledge card about how they can improve the quality of care of patients at the end of their life.

Men over 65 urged to take up screening appointment

Description
Men over the age of 65 are being urged to take up a free scan that can detect a swollen blood vessel which can be fatal if ruptured.There are around 3,000 deaths each year in men aged 65 and over in England and Wales from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). It's a condition that affects the main blood vessel that runs from the heart down through the chest and abdomen. There are often no symptoms and no warning of a problem until an aneurysm bursts.

Cancer equipment upgrade to benefit patients and research

Description
A specialist x-ray machine used by Northampton General Hospital for the treatment of skin cancer has been upgraded thank to collaboration with the Open University.The hospital's Gulmay x-ray machine has received new components and a service upgrade, funded in part by the Open University which uses the machine for vital cancer research.
