NGH hosts visit from Lynne Wigens, Chief Nurse NHS England (Midlands and East)

Description
Lynne Wigens, Chief Nurse, NHS England (Midlands and East), visited NGH on Wednesday 12th April 2016. She spent two hours visiting wards and speaking with nurses and midwives in areas and wards as diverse as the Barratt Birthing Centre, paediatrics, medicine, surgery and A&E.

Northampton General Hospital awarded funding for project to save babies' lives

Description
Northampton General Hospital has been awarded a share of £250,000 in government funding to invest in a project that will benefit mothers and their newborn babies. The announcement follows Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt inviting NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts to submit bids for a share of the Maternity Safety Innovation Fund back in October, as part of a major drive to improve safety on maternity wards across the country.

New strategy to steer nursing and midwifery at NGH

Description
Northampton General Hospital's most senior nurse has hailed the launch of a new strategy as defining moment for the nursing and midwifery professions at the hospital. Nearly 2,000 nurses, midwives and health care assistants were directly involved in the development of Our Journey to Pathway to Excellence, the hospital's nursing and midwifery strategy launched today.

Hospital appeals for volunteers to launch library service for patients

Northampton General Hospital is recruiting volunteers to help launch a new library service for patients. The mobile library service will be piloted in three wards in early 2017 with plans to eventually extend it to all adult and children's inpatient wards.

Description
Share a room, not a bed – that's the advice to parents of newborn babies from the organisation responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in Northamptonshire. Northamptonshire Safeguarding Children Board (NSCB) is re-launching its Safe Sleeping campaign aimed at preventing avoidable deaths of newborn and small babies.

Northampton General Hospital boasts the most advanced cancer centre in the UK thanks to a £5.5 million upgrade of its radiotherapy service. Patients receiving radiotherapy treatment in Northampton will now benefit from a greater range of therapies, better accuracy in targeting cancer cells and reduced side effects thanks to the purchase of the most sophisticated cancer machines in the UK. National accolade for Northampton midwives

Description
Northampton midwives who set up an antenatal group for women and partners needing extra support with pregnancy and childbirth have won a national award that recognises excellence in nursing and midwifery throughout the UK. The Chit Chat group was established by Northampton General Hospital's midwives as a way of tailoring antenatal education, parenting advice and peer support to women with additional needs, including learning disabilities or anxiety.

Northampton anaesthetist awarded prestigious professorship

Description
A consultant anaesthetist at Northampton General Hospital has been awarded a professorship in anaesthesia and airway management by an international medical society. Dr Christopher Frerk has been awarded the professorship by the Difficult Airway Society, a medical specialist society that promotes best practice and safety in the management of patients' airways by anaesthetists and other critical care practitioners.

Northampton General Hospital is calling onlocal knitters and knitting groups to support its latest dementia initiative.The hospital is encouraging knitters to knit and donate twiddlemuffs to helpreduce agitation and restlessness in patients with dementia.
