Choosing our services

NHS patients in England can choose where and when they have hospital treatment. If you need specialist treatment, you have the right to choose between at least four hospitals or clinics. If you decide that you would like to come to Northampton General Hospital for your treatment please speak to your GP or hospital doctor. They will let you know if your choice is an option, and once a referral has been made to us, they will give you a reference number and your appointments booking number. You will then need to call us on the number they give you to arrange a suitable date and time for your initial appointment.

More information about patient choice can be found on the NHS website www.nhs.uk|

There are many reasons why you should choose to have your appointment or treatment with us. Here are just a few:

High quality, safe care

The quality of our services was rated as ‘good’ by The Healthcare Commission in their 2009 Annual Health Check. We met all the government core standards, as well as meeting national performance targets. The core standards focus on the safety and quality of the care we provide. National performance targets cover waiting times and access to our services.

Clean and welcoming

We are committed to making sure our patients are treated in a clean and welcoming environment. Feedback from independent assessors shows that we are meeting, or exceeding, all the necessary hygiene standards expected of us. The control and prevention of infections is our number one priority.

Investing in our hospital

We continue to invest significant amounts of money in the services we provide to you. In recent months we have spent more than £1.5 million to ensure patients are cared for in same sex accommodation. Our new day case unit, where patients will be treated in designated theatres and spacious new surroundings designed specifically to meet the needs of the day surgery patient, opened in 2010 and our programme to upgrade the wider hospital environment continues.

Education, research and development

As well as providing high quality care, our staff are involved in researching new treatments and medicines. We are also a teaching hospital and play a key role in the education, training and development of tomorrow’s doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
