Professional Profile

Mrs Anthony qualified from Cambridge University in 1981 and then trained in London, Southampton, Northampton and Oxford prior to being appointed as a consultant at Northampton General Hospital in late 1992.

She has experience as College Tutor then Clinical Director for the department, and was appointed in 2003 as one of the Associate Medical Directors for the Trust, leading on Appraisal and Continuing Professional Development for senior doctors.  Amongst other roles, she chaired the maternity subgroup for the Central Newborn Network in England during their review of neonatal services, and spent two years as the Deputy Medical Director (secondary care) for the Clinical Performance Support Unit in the Deanery, working with doctors identified as having possible performance issues.

In addition to her clinical work, she is currently seconded as one of the Medical Directors for the NHS Revalidation Support Team in England.  This group, with other stakeholders, is preparing and testing the steps towards introducing a process of Revalidation for all doctors registered with the General Medical Council, ensuring that doctors remain up to date and fit to practice in their chosen field.  She also works with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists on Revalidation and in mentoring and coaching, and with the Department of Health on developing remediation strategies for doctors requiring further support.
