About the service
A team of specialist bereavement midwives provide immediate and long term sensitive care and support for families experiencing pregnancy loss from 12 weeks onwards up until 28 days of life.
They see families and provide help and guidance with the necessary practical requirements such as registering the stillbirth or neonatal death. They provide guidance with funeral arrangements as well as supporting families’ emotional needs and helping to create positive memories of their baby. Advice and support in subsequent pregnancies can also be offered where required.
Their role also involves training and educating all grades of staff in best practice in bereavement care and highlighting the importance of effective and sensitive communication.
