Our hospital is very busy and we encourage patients and visitors to use public transport, walk or cycle to our hospitals if you are fit and well.
A patient transport service is available for patients who cannot travel to, or from, our hospitals for non-emergency treatment because they have a medical need that prevents them from using private or public transport. You can find out more about this service here
By Bus
Catching a bus to the Hospital has never been easier and allows you to avoid car park queues and costs.
A range of bus routes operated by Stagecoach Midlands serve the Hospital from:
- the town centre (including the rail and bus stations),
- local areas such as Duston, Brackmills, Long Buckby and Southfields, and
- beyond from other towns including Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby, Peterborough and Milton Keynes.
Bus stops can be found close by on Billing Road, Cliftonville, and Cliftonville Road plus a short walk (10-mins) away on Bedford Road.
The full set of services and positions of the local stops can be easily seen on the spider map created by West Northamptonshire Council.
You can plan your journey, see the bus routes, and buy tickets on the Stagecoach website here.
By Bike
You can securely lock your bike to stands outside the South Entrance. You can see the location on the Northampton General Hospital Cycle Storage map here
By car
Our car parks can be extremely busy and at peak times you may have to queue to enter the car park. If you choose to travel by car, you may need to allow extra time for your journey. If you are mobile, you may find it easier to park in one of the town centre car parks. For more information and pricing see the West Northants Website. We also have drop off zones near to the south entrance.
Find more information about car park locations, EV charging and charges on our website.
By train
Northampton railway station is half a mile west of the town centre and one mile from the hospital. There is a taxi rank at the station.
