Car Parking

We understand that not having the option to pay using cash was a concern, and we will be reintroducing cash payments. To help us to do this in the safest way we have worked closely with our infection control team to introduce more frequent cleaning. Anyone using the machine should ensure they sanitise or wash their hands before and after use.

Payments will be accepted by cash, card or PayByPhone. Wherever possible we would advise using the PayByPhone or card option. The location number for PayByPhone can be found near pay and display machines.

The standard parking charges will apply:

The hospital offers car parking for visitors, although parking is a significant problem between 9.00am and 4.00pm, and we urge everyone to use public transport if possible or arrange to be dropped off.

There is a 15 minute drop off area is located the new south entrance, near car park 1.

We are unable to guarantee the availability of car parking spaces, so please allow plenty of time. If you cannot park at the hospital, there are public car parks in the town centre or in Bedford Road, a short walk away.

Visitors are asked to note that parking enforcement is in operation on the hospital site to deter illegal parking.

We now also have EV charge points on site detailed below.

Concessionary weekly ticket

A concessionary weekly parking ticket may be purchased from the Travel Office near main reception (Cliftonville, area D) with a letter of authorisation from the ward. Permits must be displayed at all times when parking at NGH.

Disabled Blue Badge Holders

Parking is free for registered disabled ‘blue badge’ holders in any pay and display car parks. Disabled badge users can park in both pay & display spaces and marked disabled bays, but not within barrier entry and exit car parks.

The blue badges must be fully displayed and the correct side up. Please note that it is illegal to park on double yellow or red lines and any other areas indicated as fire routes within the hospital grounds. It is also illegal to park in any other parking restricted areas indicated by signage and/or permitted time. Please be advised that the Blue Badge Scheme parking regulations do not apply on NGH site.

There are several visitor car park areas at the hospital:

  • Car Park 1 - Main car park for all wards and departments (Pay and Display)- 275 spaces).

  • Car Parks 3 and 4 - Parking for maternity, eye department, blood taking unit and outpatients (Pay and display - 100 spaces).

  • Car Park 5 - Parking for oncology and elderly medicine (Pay and display - 20 spaces).

  • Child Services, opposite car park 3 - Parking for blood taking unit (Pay and display – 20 spaces)

  • Billing Road Entrance - 6 spaces

Car Park 2 is for staff use only between 7.00am – 2.00pm Mon-Fri, but available to visitors outside these times.

Additional disabled parking spaces are located near to all major entrances to the hospital.

EV charging

We are really excited to have installed EV charging points on site for our colleagues and patients to use while they are at the hospital. This is part of our Green Plan work to become a more sustainable hospital and support those with electric vehicles to access charging points conveniently. Charging points are available as detailed on the map here.

Charging points are available in car parks 1 and 2 for public use (CP 2 is subject to time restrictions as a staff car park) and patients and visitors are able to use the charging points to charge electric vehicles whilst on the hospital site.

From 28 November 2022 charging points will cost 43p/kWh to use and patients and visitors will be required to pay the usual car parking fees alongside the charging fees. We have tried to keep the price as cost effective as possible and in line with other charging points locally.

We would ask that patients and visitors please only use the limited EV charging points if they have an electric or electric non self-charging hybrid cars and to only use if you intend to use the service. If non EV uses / doesn’t charge, a penalty notice will be issued. This is to protect these spaces for their intended use. Spaces are limited and we are working to minimise any impact of this change on regular parking spaces.

Pay by Mobile Phone App

No change for parking? No problem!

A new ‘pay by app’ option is now available in pay and display car parks across our car parks. Simply download the paybyphone app for free from the iTunes App store or Google Play for Android devices.
