What happens at an appointment

What happens at an appointment?

On arrival at the hospital for your appointment you will report to Children’s Outpatients (Area K) at which time your details will be checked by a member of the Administration team.

Your assigned consultant will call you through and your appointment will begin.

Your consultant will take the following history from you

  • Birth
  • Family
  • Development

They will observe your child throughout the duration of the appointment in order to note any key details and they may also undertake a physical assessment.

At the end of your appointment your consultant will talk through the next steps and what what that entails.

You will be given an oppurtunity to share any other neccessary information you feel relevant or ask questions at any point during the appointment.

New patient appointments will take upto 45 minutes and Follow up appointments upto 30 minutes.

On completion of the appointment the Community Paediatrician will dictate a letter outlining what was discussed and any outcomes and this will be sent out to the referring party including a copy to you as the child’s parent/guardian.
