Our Vision, Values and Strategic Objectives

Our Group Ambition

Our mission is to provide safe, compassionate and clinically excellent patient care, by being an outstanding employer for our people, by creating opportunities, supporting innovation, and by working in partnership to improve local health and care services.

Our Group Vision

“Dedicated to excellence in patient care and staff experience, and to becoming a leader in clinical excellence, inclusivity and collaborative healthcare.”

Our priorities for 2026/27

Our annual priorities and deliverables are approved by the Trust Board. They set out where we will focus our efforts this year to make the biggest difference for our patients and communities, building on the progress we have already made and supporting our long-term ambition to be leading in healthcare, trusted in communities.

We continue to work closely with University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) sharing the same priorities and deliverables as part of our Group approach so we can improve care, culture and financial sustainability together for the benefit of the 1.9 million people we serve.

Our three priorities

Our priorities remain unchanged this year, providing continuity and focus:

  • Transform patient care
  • Strengthen our culture
  • Deliver our financial plan

How we will deliver this

Our deliverables set out how we will make progress against these priorities, and what patients and communities can expect to see over the year ahead.

Together, we will:

  1. Transform urgent and emergency care (UEC) and improve planned care access, working with partners to deliver care in the right place at the right time
  2. Deliver our quality priorities, including the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and Perinatal Safety Improvement Programme
  3. Address staff survey feedback through our People Plan, focusing on compassionate and inclusive behaviours
  4. Continue our Group ‘one digital’ journey to become more data and digitally driven
  5. Deliver our Group Clinical Strategy and corporate plans – realising group benefits through service reconfiguration and shared care pathways
  6. Work with partners to provide proactive neighbourhood care across communities
  7. Achieve our financial plan targets, improving efficiency and productivity
  8. Take part in more research and commercial trials and studies to benefit patients
  9. Build a culture of continuous improvement to enhance patient experience

Our Group Values

We are dedicated to being consistently excellent in all these areas and our values are at the heart of everything we do and describe how we will behave as we work towards achieving our vision. Our values were chosen by our own colleagues with the involvement of patient representatives.

Courage

Courage - We dare to take on difficult challenges and try out new things.  We find the strength to speak up when it matters and we see potential failure as an opportunity to learn and improve.

Accountability

Accountability - We take responsibility for our decisions, our actions and our behaviours.  We do what we say we will do, when we say we will do it. We acknowledge our mistakes and we learn.

Compassion

Compassion - We care about our patients and each other. We consistently show kindness and empathy and take the time to imagine ourselves in other people's shoes.

Integrity

Integrity - We are consistently open, honest and trustworthy.  We can be relied upon, we stand by our values and we always strive to do the right thing.

Respect

Respect - We value each other, embrace diversity and make sure everyone feels included. We take the time to listen to, appreciate and understand the thoughts, beliefs and feelings of others.

“These are all values we would want to see and they reflect our experience as patients.

NHS 10 Year Plan

The NHS 10 Year Plan was published by the government on 3 July 2025.

Three big shifts will change how the NHS works, enabling it to deliver better care for all patients – no matter where they live.

  • From hospital to community
  • From analogue to digital
  • From sickness to prevention

At University Hospitals of Northamptonshire we are already starting to work towards these goals. At the end of June we introduced Electronic Patient Records at Northampton General Hospital and opened a new Clinical Diagnostic Centre in Corby.
