Description
During January, the emergency department at Northampton General Hospital saw and treated more than 2,000 patients every week - and there is no sign of a let-up. Around 25 per cent of patients attending at the hospital's emergency department during January required admission for further assessment or treatment.

Wipes block pipes
Description
Wipes block pipes – that's the message from Northampton General Hospital and Anglian Water as they join forces to raise awareness of the financial and environmental cost of flushing disposable wipes down the toilet. When flushed, wipes don't disintegrate like toilet paper. And with more and more people using disposable wipes for personal hygiene and cleaning, pipes and sewers are getting blocked.

Expansion plans for on-site leisure centre
Description
Cripps Leisure Centre is run by the hospital's health and wellbeing partner Trilogy Leisure Trust, who've announced plans to double the size of the current main gym area, expanding the cardio vascular and resistance training areas with an additional 30 pieces of new equipment.

Family and friends of NHS physiotherapist raise money for NGH Macmillan team
Description
A Macmillan Cancer Support team based at Northampton General Hospital has received a fundraising gift of £1,700 in memory of a Northamptonshire physiotherapist who passed away last November at the age of 45. The family and friends of Fiona Hoey, who worked in Danetre Hospital in Daventry, contributed to the fundraising appeal set up to acknowledge the support that Fiona, her husband Michael and their three children received from the Macmillan specialist palliative care team at Northampton General Hospital.

Northamptonshire welcomes new nursing associate students
Description
Northamptonshire has welcomed a group of history-making students who are leading the way in shaping the nursing workforce of the future. 38 nursing associate students have been recruited to a landmark pilot scheme, and the group began their studies last week at the University of Northampton.

Non-executive directors appointed to NGH board
Description
Two new non-executive directors have joined the board of Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust and two others have been re-appointed. John Archard-Jones, former deputy chairman of Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and Anne Gill, organisational development consultant, have been appointed as non-executive directors.

Northampton's favourite books make up new hospital library
Description
Northampton General Hospital is celebrating World Book Day (2 MAR) by launching its Bedside Book Club, a new library service for patients. The library will be run by the hospital's volunteers and was created thanks to book donations from the public of Northampton, with thriller novel The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins proving to be the town's most popular choice of book to donate.

Notice of appointment of external auditors
Description
Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust has appointed an local external auditor in line with the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014. Following due process KPMG LLP have been appointed for a period of four years commencing 1 April 2017. The appointment was made on the advice of the Local Auditor Panel which met on 30th September 2016 and reviewed in full the report of the procurement exercise undertaken.

Nurse bank campaign shortlisted for healthcare efficiency award
Description
A successful campaign to recruit nurses onto its staff bank has seen Northampton General Hospital shortlisted for an award that celebrates excellence in communications in the health sector. The hospital's nurse bank campaign, entitled "Join our bank and we'll invest in you" has been shortlisted in the communications category of the HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards.

Project that halved wait times for emergency gynaecology examinations shortlisted for health value award
Description
Doctors at Northampton General Hospital introduced gynaecology emergency assessment bags into the emergency department so that the specialist equipment for a comprehensive gynaecological assessment would be immediately available. As a result, the length of time a patient waits in the department for an examination has been more than halved.
