Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust

Children's Wards

There are two inpatient chidren’s wards at Northampton General Hospital.

Children up to the age of 16 (or 18 if in full time education) are looked after on both Wards.

Children with a wide range of illnesses are cared for by a team of paediatricians who work in partnership with general/orthopaedic/ENT and Maxilofacial Surgeons.

We have hospital play specialists and nursery nurses who organise activities for children, and help to create a relaxed atmosphere for both children and their families and during term time children who are well enough, attend the hospital school which is situated between the two wards.

We also have our neonatal intensive care unit where we care for newborn babies who require some form of special high dependency or intensive care and also offer transitional support to resident mothers with care requirements in excess of normal newborn care, but which are not sufficient to require admission to the Local Neonatal Unit.
