Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine

Northampton General Hospital pre-hospital and transfer medicine was formed in order to coalesce the different activities that take place within the trust, and give them a home.

About us

As a group we are drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds, including emergency medicine, anaesthesia, pre-hospital emergency medicine (PHEM) and education.  We have varying amounts of experience, from junior fellows taking their first steps into the world of pre-hospital and transfer medicine, through senior fellows on training programmes, to Consultants – some of whom who have been involved in the practice of this discipline for many years.

Partnering with our obstetric and midwifery colleagues, we run an annual obstetric emergencies course aimed at pre-hospital practitioners, utilising a range of teaching techniques, and high-fidelity simulation. In addition to this, we also run monthly free CPD evenings, open to anyone from the pre-hospital and healthcare community.  These are friendly and informal evenings and we aim to produce a #FOAMed blog after each meeting to further spread the learning that has occurred.

Join us

If you would be interested in joining us, whether as a fellow, trainee or consultant, please do get in touch and we can discuss what we may be able to offer you.

We welcome informal enquiries at any time from individuals who are interested in our junior or senior clinical fellow posts, or our consultant posts. If a post is not advertised that is suitable for you, please do still contact us and we can advise you when we anticipate our next recruitment window will be.  For more information please contact Dr Jon Birks jonathan.birks1@nhs.net.
