Services

The Cardiology Department services include:

  • 12 lead ECG

  • Exercise tolerance test

  • Echocardiography

  • Tilt table testing

  • Carotid sinus massage

  • Holter monitoring

  • Ambulatory BP monitoring

  • 3-5 day event recorders

The Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic services include:

  • 2 week wait rapid access chest pain clinic with exercise testing

  • Nurse led revascularisation clinic

Cardiac Rehabilitation Services include:

 See inpatients following heart attack, cardiac chest pain or PCI

 Hold out patient clinics

 24 hour answer phone

 Exercise Class

The Northampton Heart Centre services include:

  • Adenosine challenge

  • Diagnostic coronary angiography

  • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (Stents)

  • DC Cardioversion

  • Stress Echocardiography

  • Trans oesophageal Echo (TOE)

  • Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator ( ICD)

  • Cardiac resynchronisation therapy  (CRT)

  • Permanent pacemakers


What should I bring to my appointment?

For a clinic appointment please bring as list of your current medication. For an exercise test or rapid access chest pain clinic please wear comfortable walking shoes. You will usually have a pre-assessment appointment to discuss your admission. At this we will discuss what you need to bring.


How much time should I allow before my appointment?

For cardiology department appointments please allow up to 45 minutes, tilt testing may take an hour. For rapid access chest pain clinic please allow up to an hour and a half. Cardiac rehabilitation can take up to an hour.

Many of the heart centre procedures take a day, whilst some procedure- stress echo, TOE’s and DC cardioversions will take less time. Some may require an overnight stay, these will be discussed at your pre assessment.

The Cardiology Team consists of Consultant Cardiologists, Specialist Registrars, Directorate Manager, Assistant Directorate Manager, Administration Managers, Cardiac Specialist Physiologists, Cardiographers, Specialist Nurses (Chest Pain, Heart Failure, Rehabilitation), Heart Failure Pharmacist, Cardiac Investigation Admin, Outpatient Admin, Reception, Ward Teams (Clinical and Admin)

A variety of Cardiologists insert permanent Pacemakers and perform diagnostic coronary angiography, PCI, complex pacing device insertion, ICD’s and CRT.   We provide pacemaker checks and ICD checks.
