Midwives and staff nurses at NGH receive DAISY Awards for outstanding care

MR1678 Staff Nurse Mary Eleanor Juridico receives her DAISY award

Two midwifes and two nurses at Northampton General Hospital have received DAISY Awards for the amazing care they have delivered.

Midwife Chloe Radwell was nominated by Habiba for her care throughout her pregnancy. Habiba had experienced a difficult birth with her first daughter, Habiba said:

“Chloe put a lot of effort in to making sure we developed a strong positive rapport with each other. She did this by listening to me, respecting my choices and being honest and open so I could make the best-informed decisions. She had a genuine sense of empathy towards my worries around birth.

“She went above and beyond to make my birth environment warm and calming”

Midwife Eirene Emery also received a DAISY award after being nominated by Georgia for the way she supported her during their pregnancy, from initial appointments to a water birth.

Georgia said: “Eirene exemplified extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate patient care. It felt as though she tailored her practice to meet each labour milestone. She provided effective options and choices for every stage, detailing the best possible outcomes with unwavering positivity”.

Staff Nurses Mary Eleanor Juridico (known as Ellie) and Juliet Kotey also received DAISY awards for their individualised care across our elective surgical unit and children’s ward.

Ian was a patient on Althorpe ward for a week and was treated by Ellie and in his nomination wrote: “I have a number of conditions which make my care complex. Ellie empathised with me throughout my stay to help me.

“At no time did I have any concerns about buzzing for assistance when she was working, as I knew she would be receptive to my requests.

“Ellie always checked back in with me to let me know the outcome of a request even if it is “I don’t have the answer yet’. There are only a few nurses that I have had caring for me, that I hope to encounter should I be re-admitted in the future, and Ellie is one of those”.

Staff Nurse Juliet Kotey, who works on our Paddington children’s ward, was nominated by a 14-year-old patient who was anxious about staying in hospital.

The patient wrote: “Juliet cared for me in ways that went beyond her job. She spoke to me gently, listened when I needed to talk and understood situations when it was too hard to talk. When I felt overwhelmed, she would always reassure me through the pain and waited patiently, my care her utmost importance.

“She supported me on my hardest of days and celebrated even the smallest of steps.”

Director of Nursing Jo Smith said: “Our midwives Chloe and Eirene, alongside nurses, Ellie and Juliet, have all shown how their individualised care had a positive impact on our patients resulting in a positive experience in difficult circumstances.

“Chloe and Eirene both understood how their pregnant patients felt during their antenatal appointments and tailored their care towards them. In a similar way, Ellie and Juliet really understood their patients and made sure they had the best experience while with us. They are all worthy winners of our DAISY Awards.”
