Cliftonville – Temporary Weekend Closure from Friday 13 March – Sunday 15 March

Updated Cliftonville closure map

We are pleased to share that work on our new Emergency Department Entrance and Urgent Treatment Centre continues to progress at pace. As part of the next phase, a large crane will be used to lift several modular building sections onto the site. These modules will form new clinical areas that will expand our capacity and enhance the experience and care we provide to patients.

To allow these deliveries to take place safely, Cliftonville will be closed to all through‑traffic from Friday 13 March to Sunday 15 March.

From midday on Friday 13 March to Sunday 15 March:

  • Part of Cliftonville (corner by the NGH Emergency Department) will be fully closed to traffic.
  • Only emergency vehicles and urgent Emergency Department drop‑offs will be permitted.
  • Traffic management staff will be on-site at all times to guide vehicles safely.
  • There will be no through‑route for general traffic along Cliftonville during this period.

Access to the Emergency Department
Ambulances will access the site from the east (Cliftonville Road). Patients who need to be dropped off urgently will be directed to a designated emergency drop‑off area by traffic management teams, marked X.

For planned appointments, non‑urgent drop-offs, patient visits and collections
All patient collections and non‑urgent drop‑offs should use the South Entrance. Traffic teams will be positioned on Cliftonville to divert traffic early and help keep routes clear.

Bus stops and Public Transport
The Cliftonville bus stops will be temporarily moved for the weekend (marked on our map).  Updated information will be shared with bus operators and displayed on site for passengers, especially those who may require additional support.

Pedestrian access
Pedestrian routes on Cliftonville will remain open, although there may be times during module lifting where pedestrian access is paused for safety. Please follow red signs for Paediatric Emergency Department access.

Emergency and Blue Light Access
All of our emergency services have been consulted, and full emergency access will be maintained at all times. Temporary barriers will allow roads to be cleared quickly if urgently required.

We have arranged this delivery on a weekend to allow for minimum disruption, but please do allow extra time for your journey and follow on-site signage and the directions of traffic management staff.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete this essential work.
