Three NGH nurses and two midwives receive DAISY awards for outstanding care
Three nurses and two midwives from Northampton General Hospital have all received DAISY Awards for the outstanding care they have delivered.
DAISY in Training Nurse Lily Morton was nominated by colleague, Selina McTigue, for the kind and reassuring way she supports her patients.
Part of her nomination reads: “Lily exemplifies what it means to be a compassionate caregiver. Her warmth and kindness are evident. She goes beyond the expected, ensuring that each person she encounters feels seen, heard, and truly cared for. Her thoughtfulness shines through in both her words and actions. She remembers the little things that matter to patients, from their preferences to personal details that help them feel at ease. Patients frequently express their gratitude for the comfort, reassurance, and kindness she provides during their care. Lily’s compassionate approach and tireless dedication make a profound difference in the lives of those she serves.”
Midwife Lexi Fair was nominated by a patient’s husband, for her extraordinary care during his wife's recent childbirth experience.
Part of her nomination reads: “Having endured two challenging births in the past, my wife approached this delivery with considerable apprehension. Lexi’s unwavering support transformed what could have been another traumatic experience into a profoundly positive one. Her professionalism, coupled with genuine kindness, exemplifies the highest standards of midwifery. Lexi's impact on our family is immeasurable. She turned a potentially distressing situation into a cherished memory, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Her exceptional care not only ensured the safe arrival of our baby but also restored my wife's confidence in the birthing process.
DAISY in Training Midwife Amy-Rose Green, was nominated by patient Pamela for the care she and her baby Savannah received.
Part of her nomination reads: “I would like to nominate/recognise Amy-Rose for her exceptional attitude in the delivery of my daughter Savannah. She instantly gained my trust and put me at ease offering support and encouragement. Her choice of words was impeccable as she said phrases that made me feel safe and secure in an instance. She also complimented and acknowledged my efforts in hypnobirthing which was lovely. Please let her know her empathy and personality make her a wonderful midwife and never to lose those qualities. She may be due to qualify but she is clearly a natural and has far to go.
Diabetic Nurse Samantha Higham was nominated by patient Natasha, for her outstanding understanding and support.
Part of her nomination reads: “Sam stepped out of her role as a diabetic nurse to support me through a mental health crisis. She offered me tea, a blanket and a heart-to-heart conversation. She reassured me that things would be okay. Sam took me to A&E and sat with me for many hours until the mental health team saw me. If not for Sam that day, I would not be alive today. I am so grateful for her support. Nurses like Sam have had a true impact on me, by wanting to work in health care to support and protect others. once again, I want to say a huge thank you to Sam.”
Staff Nurse Frances Core was nominated by patient’s mother for the way she supported her daughter.
Part of her nomination reads: "My daughter visited Spencer Emergency clinic several times in just over a week and every time Frances was there to greet her, put an arm around her and comfort her. She listened, there was never any rush, despite how busy she was. She explained everything clearly and made my daughter feel that she was able to make choices in her journey towards her miscarriage. There are times in your life when you feel lost and so anxious. Frances was one of those people who helped my daughter feel less lost and someone suddenly understood which she was going through. Frances is an asset to Spencer Emergency clinic and I’m sure she has helped so many other women over the years with their own journeys. As a mother I thank her from the bottom of my heart in looking after my daughter in her time of need."
Director of Nursing Robin Binks said: “I am immensely proud of the contributions that Lily, Lexi, Amy-Rose, Samantha, and Frances, are very clearly making to both their patients and their departments.
“Their nominations show outstanding care and support to people who are going through difficult and stressful times in their lives.
“They very much deserve the international recognition they gain from receiving a DAISY Award.”
