Celebrating the difference Allied Health Professionals make

AHP Day logo 2026

Today, on Allied Health Professions (AHP) Day, we are celebrating the skilled professionals who make a difference to people’s health, independence and quality of life every day.

AHPs are the third largest clinical workforce in the NHS and work across a diverse range of roles. From dietitians and orthoptists to paramedics and speech and language therapists, they support people at every stage of life and across a wide variety of care settings.

AHP Day is also an opportunity to learn more about these rewarding careers and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals. Professor Ganesh Baliah, UHN Director of Allied Health Professions, said:

“Throughout our lives, there are moments when the right support can change everything. Across our communities, AHPs play a vital role in helping people to recover, to communicate, to move, to live independently, and to enjoy a better quality of life.

Our aim is simple. To raise awareness, to inspire curiosity, and to help people, particularly young people, to discover the careers they may never have considered before.”

Many people don't realise just how many careers exist within this family of health professionals. In our specially recorded video, the journey of a patient is followed throughout their life, highlighting the role of AHPs and the role they play along the way.

Ganesh adds: “If this journey has sparked your curiosity, we encourage you to explore the many careers within the field of AHPs. The future of healthcare depends on the people who can choose to be a part of it. Maybe that future includes you.”

Discover the range of AHP careers and the qualifications needed on the NHS careers website. Whether you are beginning your career or considering a new direction, your future in healthcare could start today.
