Public invited to hear inspiring organ donation story and smokefree generation talk at UHN Annual Meeting

Members of the public, patients, volunteers, colleagues and stakeholders are invited to attend the Annual Public Meeting of University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) on Wednesday 23 September 2026.

The event will take place from 5pm to 7pm at the Prince William Education Centre, Kettering General Hospital, and is free to attend.

The annual meeting offers an opportunity to hear first-hand about the progress being made across Northampton General Hospital and Kettering General Hospital, including improvements to services, quality of care, patient experience and future plans for healthcare across our hospitals and community services in Northamptonshire.

Attendees will hear from senior leaders and there will also be opportunities to ask questions, share views and learn more about how the organisation continues to invest in its hospitals, develop services and improve care for local people.

A special highlight of the evening will be a guest presentation from Nicola Lee, Chair of KGH's Organ Donation Committee. Nicola will share her family's moving organ donation journey following the loss of her daughter, Miriam, and reflect on the life-changing impact organ donation can have on patients and families. Her inspiring story also highlights the importance of discussing organ donation wishes with loved ones.

The event will also feature a public health talk from Dr Philip Pearson, titled "100 Days to Go: Supporting a Smokefree Generation". The presentation will explore the importance of reducing smoking-related harm, supporting people to quit smoking, and creating a healthier future for the next generation.

UHN Group Chair Andrew Moore said: "Our Annual Public Meeting is an opportunity to reflect on the past year, celebrate the achievements of our colleagues and volunteers, share the lessons that have shaped our journey, and look ahead to our plans for the future.

Alongside the formal meeting, visitors will be able to explore a range of exhibition stalls showcasing services and improvement projects from across UHN. Guests will have the opportunity to meet staff, ask questions and learn more about patient care and future developments. Visitors will also be able to sample a selection of dishes prepared by UHN's catering team, highlighting the important role that good nutrition and high-quality hospital food play in supporting patient recovery, wellbeing and overall care.

Attendees can also visit a stall hosted by Kettering General Hospital nurses behind an innovative life support training programme for teachers, where they can take part in practical demonstrations, learn basic lifesaving skills and discover how simple actions can make a vital difference in an emergency.

The meeting is open to everyone and no registration is required.
