Change of provider for Children and Young People's community services

From 1 July 2026, several children's community services provided by Northampton General Hospital will transfer to Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT).  This is a change in organisation only - children will continue to receive care in the same places, from the same teams, with no interruption to appointments or waiting lists. If there are any changes planned in the future, these will be clearly communicated with you.

The services transferring are:

• Child Development Centre
• Children’s Community Nursing (west)
• Community Paediatrics (west)
• Children’s Physiotherapy (west)

Why is this change happening?

NHFT currently runs many of these services in the North of the county. After reviewing community paediatric services, NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board decided it was better for families to have one provider across the whole county.  This change will make services more consistent and joined up for children's physical and mental health.

What this means for children receiving care from these services?

There will be no significant changes to how services are delivered. Appointments will continue as planned with the same teams and staff unless families are contacted directly, and clinics will continue to be held in the same locations.

What does this mean if my child is currently on a waiting list?

Children and young people on waiting lists will remain on those lists, with no change to their care pathway. You do not need to contact us or take any action, and you will be contacted by the service when the next step in your referral is reached.
